🎣 U.S. Bass Trend Overview: September 11th - 15th, 2025

Last week’s cool shot jump-started fall transition behavior of bass starting to move up in the water column as lakes begin to cool and some far north and high elevation lakes have already turned over.

The good news is a warming trend this weekend will delay the dreaded lake turnover event for likely a few more weeks.  And, even though daytime highs will be above normal, most bass will still be in an Early Fall to Fall Seasonal Pattern.

Expect bite activity to yo-yo through the day with wind speed, fronts, cloud cover and pressure swings

What’s the difference between an “Early Fall” and “Fall” pattern?  In an Early Fall pattern, fish begin roaming throughout the water column and more will move into pockets and creek channel mouths.  In a Fall pattern, the move much shallower and further up the bank, pocket and creek arm. A very important distinction in locating fish. You can see these specific location differences for yourself by toggling Bass Season selector Early Fall from Fall.

This is exactly the moment to lean into your Bass Forecast Mobile App to know when to go, where to fish, and what to throw. Plus, you'll get $45 in tackle gift cards to gear up without the guesswork.

Regional Bass Fishing Forecast Report: September 11th - 15th, 2025

Because the weather and water conditions are rapidly changing this time of year, be sure to check your local bass fishing top 5 baits and lake location recommendations using your Bass Forecast mobile app Adapted Patterns® feature.

Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho)

Bite: FAIR → GOOD
Early Fall to Fall Patterns - Lingering late-summer warmth keeps many fisheries from turning over; work low light with topwaters and moving baits like crankbaits and spinnerbaits, then deep/slow (drop-shot/football jig) mid day.

Top Bait Pick: Throw drop-shot

Southwest (California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico)

Bite: FAIR → GOOD
Dog Days to Early Fall Patterns.  California is in Early Fall – Jerkbaits, Spinnerbaits, Crankbaits and Umbrella Rigs should find roaming fish. Desert lakes still in Dog Days; dawn/dusk still best bet. Midday, target thermocline edges/brush with Texas, Carolina rigs and deep cranks.

Top Bait Pick: Cast Cranks

Southeast (Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky)

Bite: FAIR → GOOD
Early Fall Pattern.  Run grass/docks at dawn, then flip/punch or work ledges with soft plastics and jigs as the days moves on.  Any cloud deck can trigger active bait chasing.  So, have your Crankbaits, Jerkbaits, Topwaters and Umbrella Rigs on hand.

Top Bait Pick: Throw early morning Topwater

Fishing with Fluorocarbon?
Watch how the right fluorocarbon line will increase landing rates.

The advanced line designed for serious anglers seeking strength, sensitivity, and stealth. Fluorocarbon line has become a staple in modern bass fishing due to its unique properties:

  • Low Visibility: Fluorocarbon’s light-refractive index is close to that of water, making it nearly invisible to fish—especially in clear conditions.

  • High Abrasion Resistance: Ideal for fishing around rocks, docks, or submerged structure where line damage is common.

  • Density and Sensitivity: Fluorocarbon sinks faster than monofilament and transmits bites more effectively, allowing anglers to detect subtle strikes and maintain bottom contact.

Rocky Mountains (Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Utah)

Bite: FAIR → GOOD (variable by elevation)
Early Fall to Fall Patterns. Warm days continue in COLORADO, then a slight cooldown late weekend; UTAH holds monsoonal storm chances—great for pre-storm bites. Work points/humps with moving baits like Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits, Umbrella Rigs and Swimbaits.

Top Bait Pick: Throw Spinnerbaits

Great Plains (Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas Panhandle, South Dakota, North Dakota)

Bite: FAIR → GOOD
Fall Pattern dominates.  Ridge-driven warming into the weekend; late Sat–Sun front brings storm chances in some zones. Fish windblown banks at first light with Frogs, Poppers and Buzzbaits, then transition zones and cover midday with Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits and Jigs.

Top Bait Pick: Cast early Buzzbaits

Midwest (Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota)

Bite: GOOD → EPIC
Mostly a Fall Pattern. You could find fish active all day and have fun using a variety of moving baits all over the water column from Frogs, Poppers and Buzzbaits on the surface…to Jerkbaits, Swimbaits, Umbrella Rigs and Crankbaits mid column.

Top Bait Pick: Topwater

Northeast (New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, New England)

Bite: FAIR → GOOD
Fall Pattern dominates. Frontal activity is much higher than usual. Track these closely and try to fish pre-front with active moving baits Crankbaits, Spinnerbaits, Umbrella Rigs and Swimbaits.  Shallow fish can be found with Topwaters, Frogs and Buzzbaits.

Top Bait Pick: Cast out early morning Buzzbaits

🔥 PRO TIP: Peak action may only last 48–72 hours post front—don’t wait. Use your Bass Forecast Mobile App hourly weather graph to target those pre-front barometric dips and early after-front mornings. Be ready one day ahead—that’s how champions get multiple limits when others are late to the party.

Bass Forecast Tip:

Over 1.5 million+ Bass Forecast anglers have used these tips to boost catch rates during the cooler season.

1. DO NOT rely on “what worked yesterday”. It's not a solid strategy. The trickiest part of figuring out the bite in bass fishing is that patterns can change daily based on the weather, thus changing the feeding behavior of bass. Use the Bass Forecast app feature Adapted Patterns® to help adapt your strategy in real time. Bass Forecast Adapted Patterns® has predicted the winning pattern in 86% of top flight bass fishing tournaments 7 to 10 days before the tournament began.

2. Select best odds days up to 10 days in advance by getting Bass Forecast PRO inside the app. While there's no ‘guarantee’ of success on any single outing, double blind research has shown that season long average catch rates during GOOD/EPIC rated days are 68% to 305% higher than the average. Fisheries biologist research has also proven that bigger bass are caught during GOOD/EPIC days due to proactive vs reactive feeding behavior.

3. NO MATTER WHEN YOU GO, the BFR combined with the Seasonal Pattern (see map below) guides the 3 key elements of a successful bass catching pattern: 1. Baits to use. 2. Best bet fish feeding locations. 3. Best bet presentation speed.
