Bass fishing report for this week:
🎣 U.S. Bass Trend Overview: July 31 – August 4, 2025
Overview:
This weekend brings a mix of FAIR to EPIC BassForecast Feeding Mood Ratings across much of the country—and here's the big news: a widespread cooling trend is rolling in, especially in the mornings and overnight. After weeks of brutal heat, this shift is just what the bass (and anglers) have been waiting for. Many have been lying low, skipping trips due to tough summer conditions—but this weekend is shaping up to be the window you’ve been hoping for.
It’s also a strong reminder of why BassForecast Pro matters. The in-app EPIC and GOOD Day Alerts give you advance notice—7 to 10 days ahead—of weather-driven feeding windows, so you can juggle your schedule before the bite turns on. Sometimes knowing 2 days out isn’t enough. But when Mother Nature delivers, you want to be ready to KNOW – ADAPT - CATCH

Regional Bass Fishing Forecast Breakdown:
July 31 – August 4, 2025
Because the weather and water conditions are rapidly changing this time of year, be sure to check your local bass fishing top 5 baits and lake location recommendations using your Bass Forecast mobile app Adapted Patterns® feature.
Northwest
Cooler air and stable conditions are bringing bass into predictable patterns. River smallmouth are turning on with steady current and lower temps. Search for transition zones—rock-to-sand breaks or weed lines near deeper water. Spinnerbaits, small swimbaits, and natural-colored tubes match dominant forage right now. Active fish are feeding more aggressively—take advantage.
Southwest / South Central
Relief is on the way. Even modest cooling will nudge bass out of their deepest holes and toward structure with access to both depth and shade. Bridge pilings, creek channels, and main lake points should see more action. Deep cranks, Carolina rigs, and Texas rigs in shad and watermelon colors are smart plays. Early topwater may return briefly, so be ready at first light.
Desert and mountain lakes are seeing slight overnight cooldowns, which can trigger short feeding windows around sunrise and sunset. Look for bass chasing bait near submerged points and drop-offs. Reaction baits like jerkbaits and spinnerbaits excel when fish are roaming. When they hunker down, switch to drop shots or football jigs and stick close to structure.
Midwest
The cooling trend here is one of the most noticeable nationwide. Air temps in the mornings and evenings are dropping just enough to activate bass that have been buried in summer lethargy. Windblown points and mid-depth rock piles are back in play. Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and craw-pattern jigs are solid. Watch for shad schools near creek channels and match the hatch with flukes or small swimbaits.
Southeast
After weeks of oppressive heat, a slight drop in temps and increased cloud cover is coming—and bass will notice. Expect a stronger morning bite around shallow cover and grass edges. Frogs, buzzbaits, and wakebaits can shine early, followed by soft plastics and jigs near deeper brush once the sun climbs. Match forage size and color to what's in the area—especially bluegill and shad.
Northeast
With cool nights and lower humidity on the way, this region could experience an early taste of fall transition. Smallmouth are especially responsive to the change. Look for active fish on shallow flats and rocky humps. Drop shots, Ned rigs, and natural-colored jerkbaits can be deadly. If you see mayfly or baitfish activity, downsize and match the hatch—it’ll pay off.
🧠 Pro Tip of the Week:
When the Weather Shifts, So Do the Bass.
After weeks of high heat, even a modest cooldown can fire up the bite—especially in the mornings and evenings. Bass are highly tuned to environmental changes, and a 5–10° drop in air or water temp can make them far more aggressive.
The key is timing: Be on the water when that first break in the heat hits—not after everyone’s already talking about it. That’s where Bass Forecast PRO gives you the edge—with 7 to 10 days’ notice of EPIC and GOOD days, you can plan ahead and be there when it turns on. Don’t wait until it’s obvious. Fish the front edge of change.
PRO TIP: Use the weather graph in your Bass Forecast PRO app to review rainfall totals over the past 10 days by location, helping you avoid lakes likely impacted by muddy inflows.

Bass Forecast Tip:
Over 1.5 million+ Bass Forecast anglers have used these tips to boost catch rates during the cooler season.
1. DO NOT rely on “what worked yesterday”. It's not a solid strategy. The trickiest part of figuring out the bite in bass fishing is that patterns can change daily based on the weather, thus changing the feeding behavior of bass. Use the Bass Forecast app feature Adapted Patterns® to help adapt your strategy in real time. Bass Forecast Adapted Patterns® has predicted the winning pattern in 86% of top flight bass fishing tournaments 7 to 10 days before the tournament began.
2. Select best odds days up to 10 days in advance by getting Bass Forecast PRO inside the app. While there's no ‘guarantee’ of success on any single outing, double blind research has shown that season long average catch rates during GOOD/EPIC rated days are 68% to 305% higher than the average. Fisheries biologist research has also proven that bigger bass are caught during GOOD/EPIC days due to proactive vs reactive feeding behavior.
3. NO MATTER WHEN YOU GO, the BFR combined with the Seasonal Pattern (see map below) guides the 3 key elements of a successful bass catching pattern: 1. Baits to use. 2. Best bet fish feeding locations. 3. Best bet presentation speed.
Tight lines and happy fishing!
